Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Office

Spring has officially sprung on us this week, which means the pressure to jump start your annual cleanup is here. While you may be leaping to grab your Swiffer and rubber gloves to clean your home, you may want to first start by cleaning your office since that’s where you spend the majority of your time.

Start with what’s in front of you – a layer of dust and a moldy bagel behind your monitor which you’re not quite sure where it came from.  Grab some cleaning spray, clear off your desk and give everything a good wipe down including your keyboard and mouse which is apparently 20,000 times dirtier than a toilet seat – Gross!

Go Through Your Emails

Remember setting your New Year’s Resolution to de-clutter your Inbox and making sure there were under 20 unread messages at all times? Well, how has that been going!? If you’re like the rest of us, your Inbox is most likely well in the 3 digits. Take this opportunity to set an hour or two aside to go through your Inbox and weed out or unsubscribe to any unwanted marketing emails. Follow up with any outstanding messages from colleagues or clients and get back to the rhythm of responding to your emails within a 24-hour window.

The Drawers

You’ve always had the habit of tossing any papers or files that “you might need later” in the drawer next to your desk. Unfortunately, you’re not quite sure the last time you went through those unwanted items and tossed them in the recycling bin. Here’s your chance to hold onto the papers you will really need and file accordingly. You may even want to purchase drawer organizers and a label maker to make sure everything is exactly where it needs to be.

Clean Up Your Finances

It is tax season after all, and with just under a month left to file your taxes or an extension, it’s best to get your financial records in order if you haven’t already.  Start with creating a plan of action for the rest of the year. Have you been spending too much on dining out? Then maybe it’s time to limit yourself to only eating out on the weekends and meal prepping during the week.

Just because it’s finally Spring doesn’t mean that you should only be cleaning once a year. We know it can be a daunting task and something you may constantly put off. That’s why it’s best to let someone else throw in some elbow grease and make sure your surroundings are germ-free. Leave it up to a member of the Band Of Hands community by posting a job today.

Happy Cleaning!
